What exactly "file password protection" means ?

What does it mean? i created a password for a simple text file via openDrive website. 

i can read , write , delete the file from my sync folder on the PC .

what kind of protection this function supply ? where can i get more info about it ? you didn't write anything about it.

  The file password protection feature was implemented for added security when sharing the link to a hidden or public file. When you set a password on a file, that file cannot be accessed via link without entering the password first. It is important to keep in mind that the password will only be requested if the File link (URL) is used. If any other links are used or if the file is accessed within a folder, the password will not be requested.
