Mass changing permissions for multiple files

Changing permissions to a folder does not change the permissions for files and subfolders already in the folder. This can be frustrating when you need to change permissions to large number of files or folders.

To make multiple changes in file permissions for your OpenDrive files you can select multiple files at once (within the application), access the properties window for one of the files, change the permissions, and select OK or apply. This can be done for multiple folders as well, but files and folders will need to be selected separately.

It is important to keep in mind that this will need to be done at each folder level where you would like to change permissions, as the files and folders will not inherit the new permissions. The only time permissions will be inherited is when files and subfolders are initially uploaded.

    however if you have a high amount of data stored in these folders the move could take quite a bit of time.  Permissions are very frustrating with opendrive.  I wish there was a super user that simply had access to everything.  (i'm not running anything top secret and would like my users to simply have access to EVERYTHING all of the time).

    Could you please take this into account again? For instance I don't want the possibility of editing files with third party online software. But this is set as default. Having to change this for every single file in a folder is very frustrating.

    This Answer must be related to Windows because I'm running Mac OS and this is not the case here. Multiple files selected will grey out the file properties within the application V.2.2.2 (2021). There is no recursive thing option too...
    It's unbelievable this issue is alive for such a long time... almost 10 years! It should work trough the web browser at least!

    I'm not sure if changes were recently made for Windows users, but changing the permissions on multiple files is now pretty simple (although, admittedly, it could be made simpler). To change multiple files to hidden files (e.g. anyone with the folder URL or file URL can access the file/folder), just carry out the following steps:

    1.  Download the opendrive desktop software by clicking the folloiwng URL and then selecting the Blue download app icon on the left side of the screen.  Wait for the application to fully download, then double click the application file and install the software, selecting any install options you want (or using the default install options).

    2.  Launch the desktop software and authenticate with your opendrive username, password, and any multifactor authentication (MFA) code, if you have the MFA option enabled under your account security options.

    3.  After authenticating, opendrive will place an OpenDrive folder within Windows Explorer under This PC.  Navigate to and open the OpenDrive in Windows Explorer.  

    4.  You should see all the files and folders/directories you have on OpenDrive.  Open the folder that contains the files that require permission modifications.  Select to highlight all the files you want to modify permissions on.  You can select and highlight all the files in a given folder using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+A.  Then hover your mouse over ONE of the files in the folder and right click your mouse button and a dialogue box will appear.  Click properties.  Then a secondary dialogue box appears with three tabs:  General, Permissions, and Sync and Backup.  Select the Permissions tab.  Now, select the access permissions you want to give all the files you highlighted previously.  In my case, I want to assign hidden permissions to all the files, so I select the second option listed: "Hidden (anyone can access files if they knwo the URL)."  Click Apply and then OK.

    5.  Now, you can obtain the shareable URL to the folder that now has all the shared files in it by navigating up one level and windows and right clicking the FOLDER/DIRECTORY that contains all the files you just modified permissions for.  Click the links option.  Then you will see an URL listed next to "Link (URL)" at the top of the dialogue box.  This is the URL to the folder.  Under that, you will see individual links to each of the files WTIHIN that folder.  However, it's probably just easy to provide users with the URL to the folder and then they can browse the contents of the folder with that URL and download or open any files they choose.
